Jonathan appoints AIG Suleiman Abba as new Inspector General of Police
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has approved the appointment of AIG Suleiman Abba as the new Inspector-General of Police.
AIG Abba, currently the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, comprising Abuja, Kaduna and Niger states, replaces the incumbent Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar who proceeds on statutory retirement today having completed 35 years in service.

Landlady’s children cut tenant’s private parts
A 35-year-old man, Yinka Offehin, is
battling for his life at a private hospital in Lagos State after his
scrotum was cut by the children of his landlady.
The Edo State indigene, who resides on
Popoola Street, off Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos, was said
to have been attacked while sleeping in his room with his family
members.
His wife, Bisi, who was with him when the
incident happened, identified the assailants as Solomon and Damilola,
the children of the landlady.

10-Year-Old Girl Found Wearing Explosive Device Apparatus In Katsina
A government spokesman alleges that the suspects, intercepted today, were travelling along a road in Katsina in a Honda CRV. The child, named Hadiza, was later discovered to have been strapped to an explosive belt, the spokesman claims.
The suspects then reportedly tried to flee the scene in the vehicle, but were deterred and subsequently detained.

When he was eventually pulled from the well, he was recognized as someone who lived around..a carpenter whose wife recently left him. Some people claimed to have seen him the previous day, very drunk. No one knew how he fell into the well.

The Lagos State Police Command has
arrested three suspected fraudsters who allegedly specialised in
withdrawing money from people’s bank accounts.
Our correspondent learnt that the
suspects ─ Kola Osho, Oyedepo Adesola and Kola Ademola ─ were
apprehended by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the
Pipeline area, Abule-Egba, Lagos.
It was gathered that the suspects were
apprehended after a tip-off had reached the police that some fraudsters
were lurking at the location.
Our correspondent further learnt that
while Adesola and Ademola were arrested on Wednesday, July 23, Osho was
arrested the following day.

In a bid to test his weapon, policeman shoots himself dead in Aba
After arresting a man for attempting to commit suicide, a police inspector attached to the Patrol and Guard (P&G) Unit at the Aba Central Police Station (CPS) in Abia State, allegedly shot himself dead accidentally on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Sunday at about 10 pm after the police officer identified as Inspector Sunday Mefo had booked and collected a Kalashnikov rifle, which he was to use for night duty.
According to reports, Sunday Mefo in a bid to test the effectiveness of the rifle, pulled the trigger of the gun, in the process, one of the bullets in the cache accidentally went off and hit him in the leg and he fell.
Although he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment, he died Monday morning.

The man is the head and, more often than
not, the breadwinner for the family. This confers some modicum of
respect and privilege on the man. On the other hand, the woman is
supposed to be submissive and obedient to her man as described in most
religions. Morally, though right, the sanctity of marriage means that
the delicate balance should not be destroyed. Even when a woman is the
breadwinner, respect for the man is important and for the same reason,
the man should not take things for granted.
Ebola: Envoy, 58 persons had contacts with dead Liberian
The Lagos State Government said on Monday that it had identified no fewer than 59 people who had contacts with the Liberian who died of Ebola Virus in the state, Mr Patrick Sawyer.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, said at a news conference in Ikeja that the contact tracing became imperative to ascertain any possible transmission of the virus by the victim.
Idris said the identified contacts comprised 44 hospital and 15 airport contacts, including the Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia.
He said 20 of the contacts had been screened and that none of them had so far been found to be infected with the virus.
