Soldiers Given Superior Weapons, Agree To Fight Boko Haram

Soldiers of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army who declined going to Dalwa village in Damboa LGA of Borno State to confront the dreaded Boko Haram sect reportedly changed their stance on Wednesday, August 20.

The troops sent to Dalwa earlier in the week were ambushed on the way, prompting a retreat and they had refused going to confront the insurgents unless they were given superior weapons.

Security sources who spoke to Daily Trust said the confidence of the soldiers was boosted after the number of troops going to Dalwa and the weapons for the operation were increased, adding that the troops would be clearing Dalwa and adjoining villages and bushes in the next few days.

The source said: “The rancour has been resolved and our troops are advancing forward. I cannot tell you the kind of weapons they are using or how many they are because that would be wrong. They are well equipped.”

Meanwhile, those who were sent to a military facility in Bama before proceeding to Gwoza have still not gone, insisting that they must be given superior weapons.

Boko Haram have been seizing towns in the North Eastern region of Nigeria. Recently, they captured Gwoza, and allegedly killed about a 100 people.

Reports surfaced yesterday, that the insurgents had taken over Northern Nigeria’s riot police training academy in Liman Kara, Borno state.
